Few more Afghan embassies open in the world – diplomats are arguing, Afghans abroad are in trouble

Few more Afghan embassies open in the world diplomats

The Afghan Embassy in India will cease its operations. Foreign diplomats have also withdrawn from Kabul. The Taliban regime is recognized by only a few countries in the world.

The Afghan Embassy in India closed its doors on Sunday.

The New Delhi office has been an important stage for many people traveling abroad from Afghanistan. In the future, the mission’s duties will be handled by a traveling charge d’affaires.

The international community has not recognized the Taliban regime. Embassies were closed in Kabul immediately after the change of power in 2021.

Diplomats from a few countries such as India, Pakistan, China and India are present in Kabul. The number of Afghanistan’s own embassies is also decreasing.

The staff works in missions

The position of the Afghan embassies is uncertain precisely because of the lack of international recognition. Many countries have practically admitted that the Taliban rule Afghanistan, but diplomatic relations are severed.

This uncertainty has left many Afghan embassies, consulates, diplomats and Afghans abroad in limbo.

In some countries, employees of Afghanistan’s previous civilian administration refuse to leave and hand over buildings or property to Taliban-appointed personnel. In Italy, the police had to be called to settle a dispute between diplomats.

According to the news agency AFP, Kärhämä has also been in the Afghan embassy in India. Some of the diplomats have applied for asylum in third countries.

Cadets studying in India do not want to return

The decrease in staff and mutual conflicts make it difficult, for example, to issue visas.

The delay in processing travel documents affects the lives of tens of thousands of students and businessmen abroad.

Some want to stay abroad in fear of the Taliban regime. For example, men of conscription age studying in cadet schools in India avoid returning because they fear being mistreated in their home country’s army.

On the other hand, the Taliban is attracting students back. Every return is proof of loyalty.

The Taliban has appointed staff to the embassies of Pakistan, China, Turkey and Iran, for example. In many countries, the ambassador is not present and the staff handles routine tasks.
