few crowds in the polling stations for the referendum on

Malians voted this Sunday, June 18 to say yes or no to a draft new Constitution. Polling stations closed at 6 p.m. local time. This referendum consultation, which is the first vote organized by the leaders of the country in three years, obviously did not attract crowds.

With our correspondent in the region, Serge Daniel

For the moment, there has been no real enthusiasm for the referendum ballot. In front of most polling stations, there was no crowd, according to witnesses. However, we are waiting for the participation rate to confirm this trend.

The electoral material was generally on site. In the center of Mali, for example, we voted in the towns above all, where the police were present. But not in remote towns. Towards Djenné, still in the center, it is Sunday at the beginning of the night without news from the officials of the polling station.

In the far north, no vote in Kidal. The ex-rebels rejected the draft new Constitution and did not allow the polls to take place in the region. And still in the far north, there was no vote in some localities for security reasons.

Supporters of the “no” are already denouncing irregularities which would have marred the ballot.
