Amersfoort – The Pride Amersfoort promises to be a festive celebration of the rights of LGBTI people again this year. Yet that was not always the case. Exactly forty years, one month and two days ago, one of the first LGBTI parades in the Netherlands, the Pink Saturday in Amersfoort, went dramatically. Participants were verbally abused, spat at and pelted with stones, tomatoes and eggs. Now the Pride is a party. How is it possible that so much progress has been made? “It gave me more strength, like ‘You are completely blown away! This is not possible.'”
