Ferris wheel catches fire in Germany 20 injured News

In Germany, more than 20 people were injured after a ferris wheel caught fire on Saturday evening, the police say. The accident happened at the Highfield music festival near the city of Leipzig. The fire broke out after nine in the evening and was soon brought under control.

According to the police, four of the injured suffered burns, one was injured in a fall and the rest suffered from smoke inhalation. Policemen and rescuers were also injured in the accident.

Helicopters and the fire department arrived quickly and all the injured were transported to a nearby hospital.

In photos published by German media, the gondolas of the spinning Ferris wheel burst into flames and thick black smoke rose above the Ferris wheel.

The indie rock festival takes place every summer on the banks of the Störmthaler artificial lake outside Leipzig.
