Ferrari builds its first sailboat for ocean racing

On Wednesday revealed the Italian car brand that one prepares a venture into racing, with the famous racer Giovanni Soldini at the helm as team captain.

– We are about to begin an exciting journey that will expand our racing soul, said John Elkannchairman of the board at Ferrari, in a statement.

Elkan also said that the project will be motivated by its innovativeness and commitment to sustainability, and drive development beyond the current boundaries.

Ferrari has racing in its blood to say the least, and has participated in every single Formula 1 season since its inception in 1950.

Last year it also made a successful comeback in long-distance racing, taking first place at the legendary Le Mans 24-hour race.

An experienced man at the helm

The fact that team leader Giovanni Soldini is a real expert in racing also helps.

Soldini has over 30 years of ocean racing behind him, and has competed both as a solo sailor and as part of larger crews. He has also managed two round-the-world competitions.

– I am happy to start this new adventure with Ferrari, Soldini said in the statement. – We are working on an important and high-tech project with an incredible technological potential that brings together different worlds and skills of the highest level, continued the ocean racer.

Ferrari has not yet revealed any details regarding the boat itself or the class it plans to compete in.
