Ferrari boss has already tested Maranellos future electric supercar

Known for its iconic 12-cylinder engines and the electrifying roar of its supercars, Ferrari is embracing the electric future. CEO of Ferrari NV Benedetto Vigna, recently had the opportunity to test an early prototype of Ferrari’s upcoming electric model and hinted at his positive impression without revealing details. Vigna emphasized Ferrari’s commitment to development and expressed the company’s excitement and creativity in the research, development and production sectors.

While Ferrari is famous for its 12-cylinder engines, the company has already embarked on electrification. Hybrids accounted for 43% of Ferrari’s deliveries in the second quarter, beating its own conservative forecasts that hybrids would account for around 55% of sales by 2026. This momentum underscores demand for reducing carbon emissions, even among luxury supercar buyers.

Ferrari’s electric journey doesn’t end with its first electric vehicle (EV). The company selected a battery cell supplier, details of which were not disclosed. Competence and innovation were cited as primary criteria for this partnership. Ferrari has been meticulously developing its upcoming EV, starting with test mules, progressing to refined prototypes, and culminating in a major unveiling planned for late 2025.

To support its electric vision, Ferrari is building a state-of-the-art factory in Maranello, Italy, which will be operational by June 2024. This facility will be the birthplace of both hybrid and electric Ferraris and will mark an important step in the brand’s journey towards an electric future.
