Usmanov – who is under sanctions from both the EU and the US – won the election at home in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, as expected.
It was a knockout victory and Usmanov won the vote 120-26.
As Usmanov is under sanctions, he already chose in March 2022 to suspend himself from the job of chairman.
He did that again just one day after the re-election, that is on Sunday.
In one statement writes the Greek Emmanuel Katsiadakis, who has been secretary general of the FEI since 2016, that he has accepted the offer to become acting chairman – a task he also had in 2022-24.
However, it has been perceived as if Usmanov controlled the association behind the scenes even after 2022.
