A female police officer is seriously injured after an intervention in Ljusne in Söderhamn municipality.
The injuries occurred when the police were checking a suspected stolen car. In connection with the check, a man in his 40s was arrested who then attacked in the back seat of the police car.
The man allegedly bit the police officer and delivered several blows to her head.
– There has been quite a lot of violence, especially to the head, says Magnus Jansson Klarin, press spokesperson at police region Mitt.
The arrested person also allegedly tried to take the service weapon from two police officers, but was prevented from doing so “thanks to a wise intervention from a female member of the public”, the police write on their website.
The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance and her injuries are described as serious. Another policeman was injured in the commotion, but in that case the injuries are said to be minor.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder.
