Fela Kuti, the rebel of afrobeat

Fela Kuti the rebel of afrobeat

For the first time, the Philharmonie de Paris is honoring the story and career of an African artist. The exhibition “Fela Anikulapo Kuti, afrobeat rebellion” retraces the work, the political and musical influence of the “Black President”. An exciting retrospective to visit until June 11, 2023.

He was called the “Black President”. His Republic was “the Republic of Kalakuta”, the community based in Lagos over which he reigned supreme, surrounded by cannabis smoke, his wives and his fans. It is impossible to separate the Nigerian activist, committed to pan-Africanism, or against corruption and neo-colonialism from the music legend, inventor of Afrobeat, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. And it is this double dimension that the Philharmonie de Paris tells us about, through a series of concerts and shows, and a major exhibition, including Alexandre Girard-Muscagorry is one of the commissioners.

The exhibition ” Fela Anikulapo Kuti, afrobeat rebellion » is to be discovered at the Museum of Music, at the Philharmonie de Paris until June 11, 2023.

Rebroadcast of the program of Wednesday, October 26
