“Fela, afrobeat rebellion”: portrait of an activist musician at the Cité de la Musique

The exhibition is an event: it is the first in Europe entirely devoted to the Nigerian Fela Kuti. Fela Anikulapo Kuti, afrobeat rebellion, which opens to the public this Thursday at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, presents itself as a musical and political portrait of the “Black President”, who died 25 years ago in Lagos. The inventor of Afrobeat, the anti-colonial pan-Africanist, the provocative artist: all these aspects are evoked in sounds and images, through rare or unpublished documents, presented thanks to close collaboration with the family.
