The world is watching the fate of the submarine “OceanGate” which was en route to the Titanic. A horror game on Steam dealing with a similar scenario will sell more games as a result. The number of players is also increasing significantly. The developer cannot be happy about this.
This is the situation:
Iron Lung plays with the claustrophobia on board a submarine
Here’s how it affects a horror game on Steam: The game “Iron Lung” is considered a horror gem on Steam. It was released in March 2022 and costs €5. It has 87% positive reviews – players especially praise the immersive atmosphere.
Iron Lung is a horror game about maneuvering a tiny submarine through enemy waters.
The horror atmosphere is created by the fact that you can hardly see anything, have little influence on the environment and ruin is lurking everywhere.
“This feels so wrong”
The developer shows it: The developer tweeted on 6/21. a picture of “Iron Lung” sales, which had quadrupled in the past few days:
You can also see a significant increase in the number of players on SteamCharts, although at a low level, it is still visible.
Some tasteless reviews of Iron Lung have also appeared on Steam that make a direct reference to OceanGate.
Apparently some use Iron Lung to recreate the experience of the poor people who got lost under the sea there.
This is how the developer reacts: The developer writes: “This feels wrong.”
The developer himself is asked that he should buy a private submarine himself. But he doesn’t want to know anything about that. He wouldn’t even get into something like that for money, he says.
The dev says: Once his game got a boost of attention for “good reasons”. The YouTuber Markiplier announced that he would make a film about his game.
YouTuber Markiplier, specializing in extending into videos, introduced Iron Lung to a large audience with a video in May 2022.
