“Feels like being reborn”

It was when Johan and Daniel had gotten out of the car to film that the tailgate of their vehicle was hit by a so-called kamikaze drone. But luckily, no one was in the car, and both escaped without physical injuries.

– I am happy that we survived the attack, and that the authorities are investigating this as a war crime, says Johan Fredriksson in Nyhetsmorgonstudion.

– It feels like being reborn again. That you have coped with something terrible and can still get up.

That is why reporting is important

The war in Ukraine is the world’s most significant conflict right now, says Johan Fredriksson.

– After all, we have a criminal regime in Moscow that has attacked and illegally invaded a fragile democracy in our vicinity. It’s only a two-hour flight there.

He believes that it is a duty for journalists to be there and tell about what is going on.

– I think it goes without saying. For me, it is a privilege to participate. As a journalist, as a foreign reporter, to be able to join in and tell about these stories, says Johan and continues:

– We can’t just sit at home, rest and wait for information, but we go there to meet the people.

The egna the security

Johan Fredriksson, who has worked for over 30 years as a foreign reporter, is well aware of the dangers of covering the war from up close. He believes that the support from his family is crucial for him to be able to continue working in areas of risk.

– I have four children, a mother and a wife. I am so happy and grateful that they are so understanding of the job I have chosen to do. Without their support I cannot do it.

– It’s clear if they say stop, then I have to stop it. But I hope to continue with what I enjoy best, he says.

The Prime Minister about the attack

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) condemns the Russian drone attack.

– It underlines that the war constantly affects people who are completely civilians and who are there for other reasons. I assume that it will be investigated very carefully what is behind this, says the prime minister and continues:

– It cannot be ruled out that it is also a consequence that Russia wants to see. That journalists should not dare to be there, that they should get as little coverage as possible from this war.
