“Feel charged and ready”

A month ago, Duplantis tore himself out and finished in fourth place. But the loss may have brought something good ahead of the WC in Budapest.
– It was a “wake up call”. Now I feel charged and ready, says Duplantis to TV4.

The Athletics World Championships in Hungary are underway, and one of the big medal hopes for Sweden is Armand Duplantis.

But a month ago, during the last competition before the World Athletics Championships, things did not look so bright for the pole vault star.

After clearing the first two attempts at 5.92, Duplantis forsook the final attempt and went straight for 6.02 – which he cleared. Duplantis tells TV4 that it didn’t quite fit his body, but that he also chose to stand above hope with the WC in mind.

– There was a bit of an imbalance in the body, I was a bit too tight around the hips and it went to the back. I knew it was my last competition before the WC so I didn’t want to jump like I usually do, says Armand Duplantis.

“Know that I’m in good shape”

On Wednesday, there are pole vault qualifiers for the men, and on Saturday the final awaits.

– I know I’m in good shape and I’m where I want to be. I’ve jumped twice since Monaco and it’s been good. I know what shape I’m in so I don’t stress too much.

Can it be useful to get a food for thought, that you don’t just win and win?

– One hundred percent, it was good timing in a way, it was a “wake up call”. Now I feel charged and ready.
