The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is looking for public input on the locations for the 10 new pickleball courts that will be built within the next year.
Officials have identified Ellis Park in Chatham for six courts, Jaycee Park in Wallaceburg for two courts and Jackson Park in Dresden for two courts.
“The locations were selected on the basis of community need, current recreational assets in communities, existence of pickleball groups for organized play and appropriate space, accessibility and parking,” the municipality said in a release.
Those who wish to provide feedback can fill out a survey at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/pickleball-court-locations. The survey is open until April 18.
The municipality was a recipient of a $429,600 grant from the Community Building Fund of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in January. The grant covers 80 per cent of the cost of the 10 courts and the municipality is paying for the remainder.
The grant requires the courts to be built on municipal lands and the funds can’t be used towards existing pickleball or tennis courts, the release said.
The courts could be installed as early as this spring and summer with a deadline for completion in spring and summer next year.
