During Wednesday, the Competition Authority made unannounced visits to several companies in the food industry in central and northern Sweden.
The companies are suspected of coordinating purchase and sale prices in an unauthorized manner.

“The Swedish Competition Authority has started an investigation, and the continued work must show whether there are grounds for the suspicions that there may have been violations of the Competition Act,” the authority writes in a press release.

During Wednesday, the Competition Authority made unannounced visits to several companies in the food industry in central and northern Sweden.

Suspected price collusion

The companies are suspected of coordinating purchase and sale prices in an unauthorized manner.

At the same time, the Competition Authority in Finland must have carried out inspections at companies in the food industry – inspections that were partly coordinated with the Swedish ones.

– I can confirm that we attacked companies in the natural berry industry. The companies are active in Sweden and Finland, therefore it has been done in cooperation with Sweden, says Valtteri Virtanen, head of unit at the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority.

Will continue the work

He further explains that the inspections are a first step in a work that will continue.

– Therefore, at the moment, I cannot go into how strong our suspicions are, it will become clear later in the process, says Valtteri Virtanen.

The Swedish Competition Authority also confirms that unannounced visits have been made. But the Swedish authority does not want to confirm that it is about companies in the berry industry.
