FBI statement comes after several media reported on the threats on Wednesday.
Several people in Donald Trump’s incoming administration were exposed on Tuesday and Wednesday, the news agency reports Reuters and refers to a statement by Trump’s press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
It has involved bomb threats and so-called “swatting” – when a person falsely alerts the police that a serious crime is being committed in a residence, just because they want to see a large police force enter.
Her home was bombed
Among others, Elise Stefanik, whom Trump nominated to be the next US ambassador to the UN, was affected. She and her family were on their way home to New York state from Washington when they were informed of a bomb threat to their home.
“New York State, county law enforcement and US Capitol Police responded immediately with the utmost professionalism,” her office said in a statement on X.
Details: Trump’s defense secretary hit
It is still unclear who else has been affected. But according to The Guardian should Pete Hegseth, whom Trump nominated for the post of defense secretary, have been exposed.
The newspaper also reports that Matt Gaetz is said to have been hit. He was nominated by Trump for attorney general but later withdrew.
FBI: Aware of the threats
The FBI says it is aware of the bomb threats and swatting incidents and is cooperating with law enforcement.
“We take any potential threat seriously and, as always, encourage the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious.”
The assassination attempts against Trump
The threats come a few months after Donald Trump was subjected to two different assassination attempts.
In July, several shots were fired during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania and Trump was hit in the ear.
In September, Secret Service agents discovered a rifle barrel sticking out of a fence at Trump’s golf club in Florida while the president-elect was on the golf course.
