FBI: Iran Responsible for Hacking Trump Campaign | News in brief

Intelligence officials believe Iran has tried to hack Harris’s campaign as well.

U.S. intelligence officials said Monday they are confident Iran is responsible for the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s about the hacking of the presidential election campaign.

Although the Trump campaign and private sector cybersecurity researchers had previously said Iran was behind the hack, US intelligence officials had not previously confirmed the claim.

A joint statement from the FBI and two other federal agencies says U.S. intelligence officials believe Iran also attempted to hack the vice president, the Democratic presidential nominee Horrible Harris to the campaign.

According to the statement, the hackers had sought to gain access to individuals with direct connections to the presidential election campaigns of both political parties.

Federal officials say the hacking and similar actions reflect Iran’s determination “to hamper the ability of any US administration to pursue a foreign policy inconsistent with its own interests.”
