It was during last year’s bear hunt that Pär was attacked by a bear on a dirt road in the forest. The bear bit him in the face, and took a large piece of Pär’s cheek, which he had to operate on. But it could have gone much worse than that. The son saved his life Pär’s son Evert was also there, and acted smart and boxed the bear, which then changed its focus and gave Pär enough time to fire a killing shot. A year later, both father and son are doing well. – I feel quite well. A lot has happened. It’s getting smaller, Pär says and takes hold of his cheek, where doctors had to replace the severed skin with a piece from one of his thighs. Evert broke his arm in the attack, but rarely thinks about what happened like this a year later. – It was in the beginning that you had a thought, but now it’s calm. Sometimes you might think about it when some parts don’t work as they should. My little finger is not fully recovered, he says. “We’ll see how it goes with the next teddy bear” This year’s bear hunt premieres on Wednesday, and Pär is looking forward to getting started again. He says he’s not afraid of running into a bear. – No, I’m actually not. We’ll see what happens when you run together but the next teddy bear, I think it’s calm anyway.
