“Unfortunately, we did find a deceased male inside,” Bus said. “I know he was living here by himself, and he was in his 60s.”

No other information about the man’s identity was available, he said.

“He was a really nice guy,” a neighbor, who declined to give his name, said Monday. She said her boyfriend picked up groceries and ran errands for the man she understood was bedridden.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office has been asked to assist with the investigation which was still underway Monday, Bus said.

“We’ve run into a bit of a structural issue that’s has delayed the investigation,” he said.

“We still haven’t gotten into seeing what the cause of this fire is.”

A section of Napier Street, between Nelson and Exmouth streets, remained closed Monday, Bus said.

The house was extensively damaged and the loss was estimated at about $150,000, he said.
