Diesel wrote in his post: “I have Universal in one ear saying we need FastX2 by March 2026! I have Comcast in the other ear saying we need two movies for the finale! Then the writer of Fast & Furious 5 sent me this image and said He said DOM and HOBBS need to resolve their differences. I just want to get back to real street racing, practical tricks, and relive that beautiful brotherhood…”
These words brought to mind the possibility that Dwayne Johnson, with whom Diesel allegedly had disagreements both in front and behind the screen, might return to the series. Universal had previously assigned Flash screenwriter Christina Hodson and Cloverfield screenwriter Oren Uziel to write the Fast X: Part 2 script, and placed Fast X director Louis Leterrier in the director’s chair.
It is currently known that Universal is planning the Blumhouse production The Exorcist, directed by Mike Flanagan, for March 2026. However, Fast and Furious movies are generally released during the Easter period. In 2026, Easter falls on April 5, and Universal has booked an unnamed animated movie for that weekend.
Interestingly, Moana 2, which hits theaters this weekend, is expected to surpass Johnson’s US opening record ($147.1 million) set by Furious 7 at the box office. This is also the series’ best opening in the US. Moana 2 is poised to have Johnson’s second-best opening in the US, at least ahead of The Fate of the Furious ($98.7 million).
Fast X opened $323.8 million worldwide and grossed $704.8 million in total. Let’s see if the sequel can exceed these numbers. Vin Diesel’s posts are already enough to excite Fast and Furious fans.
