Farmers to slide to Wallaceburg for curling bonspiel

Farmers across the province are once again invited to Wallaceburg to take part in a curling tournament later this month.

The All Ontario Farmers Bonspiel is returningJan. 20-22. The 36th-annual event will be held at the Sydenham Community Curling Club at 7379 North River Line in Wallaceburg.

“After a two-year hiatus due to COVID there is major pent-up energy for the competition and even more so fun and overall good times this bonspiel provides,” a news release said.

The event will see 28 teams from across Ontario travel to Wallaceburg to compete for a total of $15,000 in prizes. The first-place team will take home $3,000.

All teams will leave with something to remember the event.

The weekend will also include all meals for the three-day event, entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights and tractor races. A shuttle will transport out-of-town farmers and others from the agriculture industry to and from the Wallaceburg Inn.

Local musician The Mike Gallant Show will perform Jan. 20. His repertoire includes original songs and covers from bands like The Tragically Hip, Blue Rodeo and Tom Petty.

Country musician Jayme Lynne will take the stage Jan. 21. Hailing from Keswick, Ont., Lynne regularly performs at different events across Ontario and has opened for Canadian country acts like James Barker Band and George Canyon.

The event is open to the public to watch. For more information, visit www.farmersbonspiel.com.
