Solidarity with the rural world

Michel Cohen, Nantes (Loire-Atlantique)

Although a city dweller, I am not unaware of all the snakes that part of the rural world must swallow. Nothing is spared: neither the most shameless class contempt, nor the abandonment of public services, nor social insecurity. The destruction of French agriculture is the result of a senseless and deadly policy. The farmers’ demands are therefore very legitimate. (“The FNSEA, so strong, so fragile“, L’Express of February 22.)

Let’s focus on solar

Jean-Pierre Armoudom, Saint-Paul (Reunion)

Electricity produced by nuclear energy is carbon-free and less expensive, but you have to take into account the risk of an accident. Wind turbines are controversial because of their uncertain profitability, their impact on landscapes and their discontinuous operation. We must therefore focus on solar energy, an almost infinite energy, free and available everywhere. France must set up a research project to improve its profitability and eliminate its disadvantages. Reunion, where there is an average of 2,557 hours of sunshine per year, is an ideal place to host such a center. (“Photovoltaics: wind of panic in the European sector”on Lexpress.fr)

From Badinter to Hernu…

Christian Dupraz, Chabeuil (Drôme)

You have paid a remarkable tribute to Robert Badinter and highlighted the diversity of his action: thank you. In the same issue, you confirm the villainy of certain French political executives and intellectuals, who have served a foreign power. However, in Villeurbanne, there remains Place Charles-Hernu, the city of which the former Minister of Defense and KGB agent was mayor. What if it was renamed Place Robert-Badinter? (“Robert Badinter, a righteous man of the Republic”L’Express of February 15.)

National rehabilitation

Jérôme Onyx, Bordeaux (Gironde)

“Wokized” universities and so-called “cultural” French and Anglo-Saxon environments like Harvard have become temples of hatred and ignorance. But we do not reform hatred and ignorance: we submit to them, we flee them or we fight them. (“Anti-Semitism: Elise Stefanik, the Trumpist who brings down university presidents“, L’Express of January 18.)

Obesity: long live the Cretan diet!

Jean-Michel Bénard, Châtillon (Hauts-de-Seine)

Bravo for your series of articles on these new molecules that make you lose weight. The stakes are enormous, whether for manufacturers, social security or public health. They are also individual, because what suffering is being obese! There is, however, a very simple, old, curative and preventive method, which does not need to be reimbursed by health insurance: the so-called Mediterranean or Cretan diet. Its better diffusion would make it possible to reserve these “miracle” molecules only for specific cases. (“Anti-obesity drugs: tomorrow, all thin?L’Express of February 15.)

Let’s take inspiration from Navalny

Claude Gisselbrecht, Metz (Moselle)

On one side, Navalny, martyr sacrificed on the altar of democracy. On the other, Putin, expert in villainy and candidate for a fifth term! A very unequal struggle between a fierce defender of fundamental freedoms and an autocrat drunk with power, capable of anything to maintain it, for whom a man’s life counts for little or nothing… So goes the world, whose danger never ceases to grow in many areas, political, economic and ecological, with consequences which risk being disastrous in the more or less long term… Like Navalny, let us all try together to resist so that the planet can find a second wind and becomes habitable again, in every sense of the word! (“Death of Navalny: a turning point for Putin and the repression of opposition”on Lexpress.fr).
