Other farmers feel that the province is not listening enough to the Nitrogen collective Agriculture Utrecht. “It contains really smart, enterprising farmers,” says farmer Anja Henken from Leersum. She works as a freelancer for various farmers in the region and, together with her parents, she has a mixed farm with forty dairy cows and 12,000 organic laying hens. She mainly sees companies where a 47 percent or 58 percent nitrogen reduction must be achieved. “If you have to reduce that far and you are not allowed to use innovative techniques, then your raison d’être is simply gone. Especially with the current revenue model.”
