He says that he initially worked in the restaurant industry.

– I am a trained chef. And worked in a restaurant. There were many times that you partied and drank after work. It is perfectly normal to drink almost every day when you should “have a beer” but instead have several.

Later in life, he changed course completely.

– Many men during my upbringing have disappeared. So my trust in men has disappeared… that’s why I turn to women the most, or yes, I trust women the most. After all, I work as a farrier and sometimes wonder if I chose a profession with a lot of women because I simply find it difficult to trust men.

When he was 19 years old, sentences began to roll in for, among other things, aggravated damage. This when he had become addicted to graffiti. A judge gave him the choice of eight months in prison or 200 hours of community service. He quit working in a restaurant and began studying as a farrier to turn his life around.

– When I was studying to be a farrier, you partied, but you wrap it in some kind of luxury package… it’s not like you think you have a problem.

– I haven’t capitulated to the drugs… and now I had stealers. What happens is that I work a lot but the weekends escalated. I started tinkering a lot… and finally lose my footing.

What happens next is that after a hard weekend, Robert sees on Monday that he had drugs left. He chooses to take them. And then realized that he needs to get help. Which he did. Including a 12-step meeting.

Robert was sober for about three years. He then met a girl he fell head over heels for. And there the relapse began.

– She said straight out that it was sad that we couldn’t have a glass of wine together and that she didn’t think I was addicted. So after three years of sobriety I chose to relapse…

Robert would have an on and off relationship with alcohol and drugs. He was sober and went to meetings, only to relapse.

But in 2021 something happened during a relapse.

– I ended up in intensive care. Was unconscious for five days, sat in a wheelchair, had to learn to walk. I was in the stroke ward for about 20 days. I read my journals and it’s a horror movie. After that I still relapsed one more time… and that was after the Farm.

– But you friend, if you have another relapse, you will die, says Nemo.
