After the Lord of the Rings films it was supposed to be over, but then Peter Jackson ended up filming the three The Hobbit films. But that didn’t work out nearly as well and meant that the director stopped making blockbusters at all. Today the last and worst part of the series comes to TV.
What is The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies about?
In the last part of The Hobbit trilogy there isn’t much left to tell apart from the big finale The titular battle takes center stage. After the events of the two predecessors, Seestadt is threatened by the dragon Smaug and Torin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) has to be persuaded by Bilbo (Martin Freeman) to help the residents.
Then Sauron sends out an army of orcs and preparations for the big battle at the end are in full swing. The most important question of the film is probably whether
Gather dwarves, elves and humans together to confront the threat.
The Hobbit 3 was a nightmare for director Peter Jackson
The Hobbit trilogy was ill-fated from the start. The three mega-blockbusters are not based on several books, but just one – plus a short children’s book. This is noticeable because the story has been inflated, stretched and embellished. But the many CGI effects also ensured that the Hobbit films failed with critics and fans (via Rotten Tomatoes).

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies demanded a lot from Peter Jackson. Apparently there was a lack of time and preparation.
On the films’ bonus material, Peter Jackson explains that scripts and storyboards were also unfinished and that he sometimes worked 21 hours a day:
It was impossible, and the result of this impossible condition was that I began filming without having prepared most of it. I spent most of The Hobbit feeling out of control. As a result of this, the director has since The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is released in cinemas no longer made a major Hollywood blockbuster.
