The release of Monster Hunter Wilds is gradually approaching and fans are increasingly concerned with whether and how their existing devices will handle the game. Some people buy a PS5 specifically for this purpose. However, some players warn that fans may regret their purchase in the future.
Why do players warn? The debate about whether it’s better to use a PC or a console is probably as old as there have been on the market. The relatively high minimum requirements of Monster Hunter Wilds mean that many fans now have to think about how they ultimately want to play the game.
Many players are currently buying a PS5 for around €500 so that they can experience Monster Hunter Wilds when it releases on February 28, 2025. However, internet access also plays a role, so to play on the PlayStation 5 you must also take out a PlayStation Plus subscription in order to be able to play with others online. The price for the cheapest Essential variant is around €71.99 per year.
Some fans are taking this as an opportunity to warn those who buy a PS5 specifically for Monster Hunter Wilds. The topic is currently being hotly debated in a thread on Reddit. From the point of view of some players, if the game runs for several years (and therefore also several years of costs for the PS Plus subscription), an average gaming PC would be more profitable and would bring significantly more advantages.
Firstly, access to the online features of Monster Hunter Wilds on PC is free, which avoids additional costs. On the other hand, there are more options for customizing your personal gaming experience on the PC, such as a wider selection of controllers, the ability to install mods, or free cloud storage space, so that you can simply continue playing with friends or other devices.

PC upgrade or console – that is the question
Does everyone see it that way? However, the community seems to be divided on this matter. Some contradict the warning voices and believe that for a really good gaming experience, a suitable gaming PC would be far more expensive than a PS5, on which the game now runs very smoothly. Even if you were to include a two-year subscription, for example, a PS5 would cost around €700.
Depending on the market situation, you would only be able to buy or put together a suitable PC with luck that not only meets the high minimum requirements of Monster Hunter Wilds, but also ensures a well-rounded gaming experience. At least if you had to buy a completely new PC.
The situation is different with hardware upgrades, as these could definitely be cheaper. Here each player would have to weigh up for themselves which advantages are important to them and which personal preferences they have. Recently there was concern that the PC version would be inferior to the version on the PS5, especially in terms of performance and graphics, as there were some technical problems during the beta that affected the Steam version.
Many fans also report in the comments that they had already had a similar discussion (via Reddit) when Monster Hunter World was released and that they will still do it that way again because they have not regretted their decision. Some also recommend waiting for a potential demo before investing in your PC or a new console.
The performance and graphics problems in particular will be the focus of Capcom’s further development until the release in February. This was also confirmed by an interview with Director Tokuda, who assured that these problems should no longer cause problems when released on Steam: In Monster Hunter Wilds, there will be one thing in the PC version that players will not have to worry about
