In 1981, Monty Python member Terry Gilliam brought a crazy mix of fantasy, adventure and comedy including a time travel twist to the cinema, namely Time Bandits. The cheerful genre mix quickly found many fans, so that a sequel was discussed several times. But part 2 never came to fruition.
In 2018, Apple TV+ secured the rights to the material and commissioned an episodic remake. Time Bandits, the series, launched this year in July as one of the biggest fantasy projects of the streaming service. Two months later, it is clear that the story will not continue. The series has been canceled again.

For Apple TV+, the project developed by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), Iain Morris (The Inbetweeners) and Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) was apparently a flop. Even the predominantly positive reviews were unable to increase interest. The series flew completely under the radar this summer.
After Willow, Time Bandits is the second major fantasy series in recent years that is based on a cult film from the 1980s, but it was not successful in bringing the magic of the original back for a new generation. Unlike Willow, however, it was not a legacyquel, but a reboot.
