The romantic time travel story Outlander is one of the best and most popular fantasy series of the last 10 years. Anyone watching the series in Germany had to prepare for a big change from season 6 onwards, as the epic story of the Fraser clan was no longer broadcast on free TV.
So far, the new episodes of season 6 have only been available to watch for a fee. Fans who prefer to stream Outlander with a subscription have had to be more patient than usual. Almost 3 years (!) after the 5th season was added to Netflix, the time has finally come: Outlander Season 6 has been streaming on Netflix since February 3, 2024.
Outlander on Netflix: Season 6 is shorter than usual and ends without a conclusion
Outlander tells the story of Claire (Caitriona Balfe), who travels through a magical stone circle back to 18th century Scotland and falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Over the years, the characters’ situations have changed drastically. Since Season 4, the Frasers have been living in the colony of North Carolina, building a life there as the American Revolutionary War draws looming closer.
The plot of season 6 is based on parts of the novel A hint of snow and ash (Original title: A Breath of Snow and Ashes) by author Diana Gabaldon. In it, life on Frasers Ridge is thrown into disarray by, among other things, the arrival of a family named Christie.

However, anyone who is looking forward to bingeing Outlander Season 6 directly on Netflix must be prepared for major disappointment. The new season only consists of eight episodes and is the shortest yet. In addition, the reunion with Jamie, Claire and Co. ends on a huge note Cliffhanger and no real conclusion.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the pregnancy of leading actress Caitriona Balfe only 8 of the planned 12 episodes turned. This means that the actual season finale can only be seen at the beginning of season 7, which was given 4 more episodes to compensate.
When is Outlander season 7 coming to Netflix?
If you want to know what happens next for Jamie and Claire as well as Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin), you can already stream season 7 in German as a purchase VoD. But there is a small catch, because only 8 of a total of 16 new episodes were released last year. The second half of the season is scheduled to be released this year. For example, anyone who has purchased a season pass from Amazon * will receive the remaining episodes when they are released.
Since the season is not yet complete, it is not yet possible to estimate whether it will end up in Netflix’s program unfinished. Looking at the release strategy of season 6 could Outlander season 7 (part 1) in spring 2025 on Netflix be visible.
After season 7, Jamie and Claire’s story is far from over. Outlander is getting an 8th season, but it will also be the last. The final episodes will be filmed this year and are expected to premiere in the USA on Starz in 2025. With Outlander: Blood of My Blood there is also one Prequel series about Jamie’s parents in development.
