In December 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced a slew of Star Wars series to be released on Disney+ in the years to come. Among them was a Solo: A Star Wars Story spin-off series about the iconic Star Wars character Lando Calrissian.
Dear White People creator Justin Simien was announced at the time as the creative mind behind the project. Since then, however, little has happened. Many fans assumed the Lando series was long dead. It wouldn’t be the first Star Wars project that, despite a big announcement, is never implemented. But now there is good news.
The Lando series is alive: Donald and Stephen Glover are writing the Star Wars project believed dead
As reported by Above the Line and confirmed by Variety, the Lando series is far from dead and is still in the works. Simien himself says in a story on Instagram that he knew nothing about the developments.

As a replacement, Lucasfilm has found what is probably the best name imaginable: Donald Glover. He starred as a young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He was expected to reprise the part in the series. Now he is too as a screenwriter on board – along with his brother Stephen Glover.
The Glover brothers have already implemented numerous projects together, most recently the Amazon series Swarm of Bees and the music film Guava Island. Of even greater note is the series masterpiece Atlanta, which starred on FX from 2016 to 2022 and is a regular outstanding and imaginative episodes amazed.
The deal with Donald and Stephen Glover was said to be several months ago completed before the double strike have been, which is currently putting Hollywood in a state of emergency. The scriptwriters (represented by the WGA trade union) have been on strike since May and the actors (represented by SAG-AFTRA) since July.
New Star Wars series: When does Lando start on Disney+?
It’s unclear how far the scripts for the Lando series have progressed. The strike situation is likely to delay the start of shooting for some time. Before 2025 we shouldn’t count on a launch date. Until then, maybe the Glovers will find a way to also bring back Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Emilia Clarke as Qi’ra.
