Fans have been waiting for FIFA 25 for years, due to be released this year

FIFA 25 is said to be releasing in autumn 2024 – but it is not coming from EA. After the gaming company awarded the naming rights, 2K is now rumored to take over. But it won’t be that easy for the experts in the sports gaming sector.

This is the rumor:

When is the release? According to MohPlay Inc, FIFA 25 will be released in 2024, but probably under the usual 2K name FIFA 2K25. A specific release date and confirmation are pending.

EA released its FIFA and Sports FC games in the fall. Accordingly, fall 2024 would also be the time period in which FIFA 2K25 could be expected.

After EA made the last official FIFA game with FIFA 23, the next part, FIFA 2K25, is finally within reach. However, there are a few catches for the new developer.

FIFA 2K25 as a competitor to EA FC – With hurdles

Although EA no longer holds the naming rights to FIFA and is therefore no longer allowed to call the game that, the company still holds a ton of naming rights, including:

  • over 19,000 players
  • over 700 teams
  • over 100 stadiums
  • and 30 leagues
  • These include some exclusive partnerships, for example with the Bundesliga or the popular La Liga. EA Sports FC is no longer called FIFA, but can at least continue to use all the official names. How things will work at 2K is still uncertain.

Already with the separation from EA, FIFA boss Gianni Infantino promised in 2022:

I can assure you that the only authentic, real game that bears the FIFA name will be the best available for gamers and football fans. The FIFA name is the only global, original title.

With FIFA 2K25, 2K would be FIFA’s new big competitor for the market of football games for PC, PS5 and Xbox. The biggest competitor in the genre to date, Pro Evolution Soccer, completely changed the games shortly before the end of EA’s FIFA era – with moderate success: eFootball 2022 completely botched its Steam launch – now showing remorse in its comeback
