The streaming platform is putting online this week the sequel to a Korean series released in 2021, which was well received by subscribers.
Subscribers to streaming platforms are starting to get used to it: you often have to wait several years before you can discover the rest of your favorite programs. This week, some people’s patience is coming to an end. After 3 years of waiting, this Korean series praised by Netflix subscribers finally returns for a sequel.
In 2021, users of the streaming platform discovered the first six episodes of this program flirting between drama and horror. Created by Yeon Sang-ho (director of the highly successful Last train to Busan and science fiction film Jung-E)this series takes place in a society where creatures kill some humans. If a police investigation begins, the members of a sect believe that it is a divine manifestation which would send the victims of the creatures to hell. You may have recognized it, this series is Hellbound.
In the casting, these are regulars of Netflix’s Korean programs that subscribers may recognize: Kim Hyun-joo, seen in Ancestral Or Jung-E, Kim Shin-Rok, currently starring in the film UprisingIm Sung-jaeExtraordinary Attorney Wooor even Kim Seong-cheol.
Three years ago, Hellbound had relatively attracted specialist critics. If 20 minutes deplores “bad CGI”, the media salutes the series’ ability to lend itself to “mixing genres” and “philosophical questions”. Le Monde, for its part, salutes the “ambition and unexpected force of emotion” of this series, while Ecran Large praises “its intelligent and well-crafted message”. Conversely, Télérama regretted “a muddled investigation, characters without real depth, and a good dose of big-budget terror”.
Regardless, the public responded and the series was able to be renewed for a season 2. While the first season was released on November 19, 2021 on Netflix, the second is available this week: it’s this Friday October 25 when all the episodes are posted online. As always, you need a subscription to the streaming platform to be able to binge-watch them.
