The American director Norman Jewison has passed away, at the age of 97. He has directed films such as “Mångalen” with Cher in the lead role and “In the heat of the night”.

Jewison was born in Toronto, Canada, and began his career as an actor. In 1962 he made his directorial debut and the breakthrough came three years later with “Cincinatti kid”, there Steve McQueen and Edward G. Robinson played the main roles.
He is also behind films such as “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “The Russian is coming! The Russian is coming!”.
During his four-decade career, Jewison received seven Academy Award nominations, including three for best director. His films received a total of 46 nominations and 12 Academy Awards.
