For Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel), family is everything. In his latest adventure, Fast & Furious 10, however, she becomes a target. Because an act from his past catches up with him in the form of new antagonist Dante Reyesplayed by Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa.
The first trailer for the action film, also known as Fast X, was released on Friday. As part of this, I asked director Louis Leterrier about the special features of the new villain in an interview.

In Fast and Furious 10 there is a special connection to the 5th part of the series
If you look closely at the trailer, you can already see them Connection of Momoa’s Dante and Dom Toretto. Because we’re seeing the final heist from Fast & Furious Five again, only this time from Dante Reyes’ point of view.
Dante is the Son of Brazilian drug lord Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida). In Fast Five, Dom and Brian (Paul Walker) had stolen Reyes’ safe filled with money and dragged it through the streets of Rio de Janeiro. In the process, Reyes was killed by Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson).
Dom is responsible for his father’s death. At least that’s what Dante thinks. So he wants revenge. Louis Leterrier explained the dynamic in Fast and Furious 10 like this:
22 years of good deeds have consequences. When you take out antagonists – These people also have families. How will this family react? That’s a very interesting dynamic that we have. [Familie] was always the secret weapon, now it’s the poison.
We treated the great chase scene in Fast Five almost like Kurosawa’s Rashomon, we reshot part of it and staged it so like Dom and Brian are the bad guys and the Reyes family are the good guyswhose safe is stolen. Fast X is like Cobra Kai with cars (and Jason Momoa)
So think of Fast X, at least in part, as Cobra Kai and Jason Momoa as Johnny Lawrence (a comparison Leterrier agreed with in the interview, by the way).

Fast and Furious 10
Momoa’s Dante is already noticeable in the trailer with his, shall we say, idiosyncratic taste in fashion. His desire for the unpredictable is not only reflected in the nail polish that goes with his cars, as Leterrier revealed in an interview. Included also served as inspiration for Momoa herself:
He’s flamboyant, and for a reason. He loves the headlights. It’s funny because he resembles Jason Momoa. He loves music. Every time he comes on set, there’s someone with a boom box. He brings this living energy with him.
But behind Dante’s eccentric appearance lies a heavy loss:
When your life is taken from you at 20 and you have nothing to lose, you live life as if every moment is your last. He does. He’s sprawling and he loves it. That confuses Dom. Dom is used to having darker, more controlled antagonists. He knows how to use cleverness but dealing with chaos is really hard. How to control a fire that spreads everywhere? this is jason With Dante, the action series returns to its origins
Here’s why, for Leterrier, Dante is one of the most dangerous villains in the Fast and Furious movies:
He’s one of the scariest villains. Cipher (Charlize Theron) was a very scary villain. She’s controlled and cold, but he’s not. He also studied cathedral. He knows everything about Dom, all about family and that’s so scary. Because it feels like you’ve been watched for 20 years. There’s no place to hide.
Finally, Leterrier wants to return to the roots of the series with Dante. That’s why he emphasized in the interview how important his preference for cars is. In Fast X, Dom gets it again with one passionate car fanatics to do, as Leterrier points out:
They compete against each other in races. We’re back in the Fast and Furious we’ve come to love.
Let’s hope the director is right. Almost X arrives on May 18, 2023 in German cinemas. Podcast about the Dwayne Johnson phenomenon: pain in the ass or sympathizer?
Dwayne Johnson is everywhere right now. He stars alongside Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice, the most expensive Netflix film to date. He also has his own series about his life with Young Rock, which can be seen in Germany on Sky. As usual, he presents himself cautiously as the presidential candidate of the future.
