The submitted images are expected to be displayed at the Chatham Cultural Center from Jan. 28 to March 26, pending COVID-19 restrictions.
“We’re leaving it fairly open,” art gallery curator Phil Vanderwall said. “There are lots of people who have strong family connections they want to celebrate. There are people who are feeling isolated through these times and may have a different sort of feeling about family, more in line with longing. ”
Vanderwall said he hopes the Chatham-Kent community “will rally together creatively” and bring in their different perspectives on family.
“We’re looking forward to the opportunity to present a positive message celebrating the role of family in the upcoming months,” he said. “Whether it’s a celebration of our biological families’ past and present, alternative perspectives on how we participate in family life, or the ways we stave off the effects of isolation, we’re excited to present this show.”
The show came together based on another exhibit that will be on display in the gallery called I’ll Be Your Mirror. Vanderwall said that show is a group exhibition that looks at artists who use their parents in their work.
“That kind of spurred out thoughts of how that would translate into the community,” he said.
Residents can submit up to two photos as JPEG files, along with the completed form found at www.tagartspace.com , to [email protected] by Jan. 21 at midnight.
Depending on the response and the lockdown restrictions at the time, Vanderwall said the photos may also be displayed in the window at ARTSpace on King Street West in Chatham.
