Family in Borås was invaded by high-rise flies

A family in Borås was invaded by so-called high-rise flies and has described the situation as “pure hell”.
But there are several things you can do to get rid of those evils.
– It is often those at the top of the house who have problems, not the others, says Håkan Rystrand at Anticimex.

When the air is warm, preferably in late summer, the zebra-striped freeflies thrive best. But when autumn and the cold approach, they need to find somewhere to spend the winter. A family in Borås has experienced this. The so-called high-rise flies have completely invaded the apartment’s windows and balcony.

– They thrive in the lawn and now in the fall they retreat to the top of the house, so it is often the ones at the top who have problems, not the others, says Håkan Rystrand at Anticimex in Efter fem.

Although the family hired pest control and kept windows and doors closed, it has been difficult to get rid of the flies.

The insect is not dangerous, but the amount of flies can be very troublesome. The flies swarm in millions and the amount can stain both house walls and roofs black.

– First you have to find where the flies live, it could be a lawn under or around the house. Then you have to try to process that lawn so that the aphids don’t survive, which the flies live on, says Rystrand.
