The Family Day Funspiel Hosted by the Chatham Granite Club has been popular since it began.

There’s been a waiting list to be part of the event that is geared to newcomers to the sport, since it began three years ago on family day.

“I think the key word is ‘fun’ and no pressure,” Said Event Convenor Carolynn Gregory.

“Yes, we trying to learn the game, but Everybody’s helping each other and just having a really good time.”

Noting the 40 Participants on Monday Ranged in Age from Nine to Over 75-Years-Oold, Gregory Said, “It Just Shows You The Sport is for all ages and it’s great.”

Ten-Year-Old Lochlan Roffel Tried Curling for the First Time Monday Playing AlongSide His Grandfather Keith Burnett.

He was ready to give the game a try.

“I’ve been watching from up there (the club’s lounge overlooking the rink) for a while so, it is fun to come and play,” LOCHLAN SAID.

Chatham Resident Robyn Forster has participated in event since Began.

“I am EnjoyEd Being with my family and it’s really fun, not super competitive, which is what i like,” she said.

“It’s fun to get out here, get a little bit of Exercise and spend time with the family.”

This is the second time John Augustus has been part in the funspiel since moving to canada from England about a year ago.

“I love it,” he Said. “It’s a Great Family Event.

“It brings Everybody Together and the Community Together.”

Augustus, Who Never Curled Before Moving to Canada Said, “It’s a good workout, but it’s also good fun.”

Granite Club Treason Randy Davidson Said The Family Day Funspiel “has been very successful for us.”

He Said Playing Play Two Six End Games and Those New To The Sport Get A 30-Minute Lesson Before the Games Begin.

The Club Has Seen A Growth in Membership, Davidson Said, Citing the Success of the Club’s Learning to Curl Program.

He Said 16 of the 23 Participants in the Fall Session of the Learn to Curl Program On Tuesday Nights Are Now Members.

Davidson Says the Club also Holds Open Nights on Friday where the public can come out and try the sport for a nominal fee.
