Family allowances increased by 16 on April 1

This Saturday, April 1, 2023, several family allowances will see their amounts revalued by 1.6%, the Ministry of Solidarity confirmed to us.

Every year, most social benefits and Family allowances paid by the Caf (Family Allowance Fund) or the MSA (Agricultural Social Mutual Fund) are revalued on January 1 or April 1, depending on inflation. Contacted by our editorial staff, the communication office of the Ministry of Solidarity confirmed to us that this year, family allowances will increase by 1.6% on 1 April 2023. A revaluation which is to be taken into account with the revaluation of 4%, which occurred during the summer of 2022.

Over one year, the revaluation of all social benefits is therefore 5.6%. “These upgrades were also complemented by the exceptional solidarity allowance and the exceptional energy check. For the Minister, it is a priority to mitigate inflation to protect the most vulnerable against rising prices, and to have relevant levels of revaluation”, we were told. Furthermore, the ministry could in future set up “a future upgrade in the summer” 2023 to adjust for inflation. “We are not there yet today, but it is one of the scenarios we are working on”tells us the ministry.

Who can benefit from family allowances?

At the birth of a child, parents benefit from family benefits which allow them to welcome their newborn in the best conditions and to meet the expenses related to the birth of a child (childcare, clothing, schools, nanny, etc.). Family allowances are paid to people with at least 2 dependent children under the age of 20. (and from the first child in the overseas departments). They vary according to the resources of the family, the number and the age of the children. Depending on the number of children, family benefits are therefore not the same. For example, family allowances are paid from the second child, and the family supplement from three children.
