Falun gets to host the Ski World Cup 2027 – won as the only applicant

Falun gets to host the Ski World Cup 2027

Just like in 2015, the world championship in ski jumping, Nordic combination and cross-country skiing will take place at Lugnet in Falun. It was decided by the International Ski Federation (Fis) on Wednesday night.

In practice, Falun was the only option, as no other destination registered its interest.

– We thought that more people would apply, so it has been a little different. But we were quite clear that Falun would run and then maybe some others backed, because you know that it is an incredibly strong candidate, says the Swedish Ski Association’s campaign manager Ulrika Back Eriksson and continues:

– Our attitude has always been to continue to lean forward and even if there has been no other applicant, it has still been a lot of work to show that Falun is ready to arrange a World Cup. We do not want to be elected because we are the only candidate, but because we are the right candidate.

Even though Falun was the only candidate, Ulrika Back Eriksson did not dare to take the victory in advance, but when the decision is now formally hammered, the next phase of planning begins.

– It is difficult to know exactly what it will look like during the championship, but we have set up a rough framework for the upcoming World Cup company to decide on and based on that make a decision on exactly how it should be.

– Then it is also important that we take advantage of this opportunity and build on the organization. For now, we have a huge opportunity to become even better in all three World Cup sports.

Last time it happened Ski championships in Falun took Sweden’s cross-country national team nine medals and the hope is that there will be new blue-yellow successes in 2027, also in the other sports.

– Back jumping is a sport on the rise in Sweden and during the past year, Frida Westman, among others, has risen like a rocket. It would be very fun if we have a Swede who is at the top of the podium in Falun, says Ulrika Back Eriksson.

The Swedish Ski Association chairman, Karin Mattsson, says that it means a lot to Swedish skiing that the championship returns to Sweden.

– The competition is increasing all the time and in the time we are now, it is really important that we stay ahead and do really well. This means a lot for both cross-country skiing and ski jumping as it will inspire more people, she says.
