Fallout 4’s new update is so bad that players want to get rid of it

The “Next Gen” update is proving to be a big problem with Fallout 4. Anyone who wants to get rid of the huge patch on Steam will have some trouble. The GOG platform boasts an easy solution, but who has the game there?

This is the situation:

  • Thanks to the new Amazon Fallout series on Steam, Fallout 4 is currently more popular than it has been since December 2015. The number of players increased by 242%, reaching a peak of 167,388 players.
  • But the new 14.4 gigabyte update from April 25th. Now it mainly caused problems: saves no longer loaded, free mods no longer worked. Fallout 4 didn’t really look any nicer, and there were a number of problems
  • Many people want to get rid of the update now, but it’s not that easy on Steam

Rolling back the new patch for Fallout 4 is stressful on Steam

How to get rid of the update on Steam? On Steam it takes a lot of effort to get rid of patch 1.10-980, which was released on April 25th and caused some anger.

So you have to use the Steam console, delete various files, download 22 gigabytes and then you can only use Steam in offline mode. If you want to play the earlier, working version of Fallout 4, you will have to keep delaying the forced Fallout 4 update.

For many, this is not a good option that Steam offers here.

GOG offers an easy solution – the game costs €10 there

How can it be better? On GOG, the service from Witcher developer CD Projekt Red, all you have to do, as PC Gamer writes, is open the menu, go to “Installation – Configure – Installation” and uncheck “Automatic update to the latest version” and then Roll back the patch to the previous version.

In addition, Fallout 4 is currently being offered on GOG for €10.

But of course it’s a sour apple that you have to bite into: getting Fallout 4 on a platform other than Steam and thus indirectly rewarding Bethesda just because a current patch is so terrible is not a very tasty option either.
