Falkenberg’s municipality is deprived of millions in electricity subsidies – because of a greenhouse

The municipality expected just over 18 million in support as a municipality, but under the classification as an agricultural producer, the municipality is entitled to a maximum of two and a half million kroner. And that is how the Swedish Tax Agency’s assessment reads.

– It’s a bit comical. The reason is that we have a municipal greenhouse that grows plants and bulbs, says municipal board chairman Per Svensson (S) to SVT Nyheter Halland.

The municipality may appeal the notice from the Tax Agency.

– We are investigating this. We will engage in a dialogue with other municipalities and regions that have been affected. I am quite optimistic that the Swedish Tax Agency will change its mind, he says.

What are the consequences if you miss out on the 16 million?

– It has major consequences. This will mean that we will not reach our goals for the year. We have a budget to follow. The consequence of 16 million under budget would be that we simply have to borrow extra capital. We hope this will be corrected as soon as possible.
