It was one night at the end of March last year that the 50-year-old Nässjö resident entered another man’s apartment in Gothenburg.
The plaintiff has said that he woke up to someone knocking on the door and shouting that he was the police. Through the peephole he could see a person with a reflective vest, and therefore opened it believing it was indeed a policeman.
Thrown mirror
Once inside the apartment, according to the verdict, the now-convicted Nässjö resident pushed and abused the man by, among other things, throwing a mirror at him.
The men are not supposed to have known each other previously, but the motive reportedly involved a woman they were both familiar with.
Gets busted for playing cop
The district court convicts him of gross impersonation of a public position – that is, that he pretended to be a police officer – as well as assault and illegal threats. He himself has admitted threats, but otherwise denies any crime.
He is sentenced to four months in prison and must also pay damages of just over SEK 20,000.
