In the last two years, bankruptcies have increased and a contributing factor is the recession. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, 2,985 companies have gone bankrupt.

Died from poisonous gas
On June 20, two men in their 40s died after working in a tank at the plastic recycling company Omni Polymers, located in Ängelholm. In the tank, hydrogen sulphide, a poisonous gas, had formed, which the men breathed in, reports say Today’s Work.
According to Omni Polymer’s own investigation, the accident was due to a few different factors, mainly that it had gotten into sludge in a treatment tank, causing hydrogen sulphide to form. Another contributing factor was that a lightning strike could have caused the water to not circulate as it should.
The Work Environment Agency has also investigated the accident, where they concluded that one of the men was not wearing a respirator. The Swedish Work Environment Authority decided to report the company to the police.
A former employee of the company suspected of crimes connected to the accident. The crime classification is a work environment offense by causing the death of another.

The factory files for bankruptcy
Now the company has filed for bankruptcy, reports Dagens Arbete.
This after the fatal accident led to the business being shut down for nine months, which created major financial difficulties.
– You have had costs but no income during that time, says the bankruptcy trustee Peter Thornwallto Dagens Arbete.
About 30 employees worked at the factory.
With the bankruptcy, the company cannot be convicted of a crime, but the former employee can still be convicted if this is the case.
– Then there can be no question of a corporate fine, says the prosecutor Christer Forssman.
