These are exceptional testimonies to the history of slavery. Around fifty busts, cast in 1846 on former slaves, are grouped together in the exhibition Faces of ancestors. Among them, there are the ancestors of the Lily… Embarked as slaves in Mozambique on a Brazilian ship, they were intercepted by an English ship – THE Lily – who brought them to Mauritius, where slavery was then abolished. Today, the descendants who bear the name of this boat come to discover the faces of their ancestors for the very first time.
