A minimal reshuffle, intended to improve relations with the Conservative MPs tempted by the revolt after the Partygatethe holiday scandal in Downing Street. Four collaborators of Boris Johnson recently resigned.

In the House of Commons, it is now a tough “Johnsonist”, Chris Heaton-Harris, who is in charge of party discipline – it is among other things thanks to him that the Prime Minister has not suffered vote of no confidence.

Another change, Mark Spencer becomes leader of the parliamentary majority, replacing the lifelong Brexiter Jacob Rees Mogg. The latter takes the portfolio of Brexit-related opportunities and government efficiency… A new title, while the right wing of the conservative party considers that the government does not “benefit” enough from Brexit – and that the executive is accused to focus too much on internal crises and not enough on the “real” political issues: the cost of living and health.

A reshuffle criticized by the opposition and by some Tories because it was considered cosmetic, nepotic and very masculine. It is also perceived as an affront to ethics: Mark Spencer is currently under investigation, accused of Islamophobia by a former collaborator.
