Faced with criticism, Free rear machine. The operator now supports termination costs for new customers who go to its Freebox Pop S formula, which should have been the case from the start.

Barely ten days ago, on April 9, 2025, Free created the surprise by launching a new internet offer at low prices with the Freebox Pop S. An attractive formula built around the Server box of its Freebox Pop, with a quick connection-up to 5 Gbit/s in fiber-, Wi-Fi 7 and fixed telephony, but without the TV service-and therefore 24.99 euros per month, without obligation (see our article). A solid offer, well suited to those looking for “naked” Internet, without TV, and which is placed in direct competitor of the pure Fiber formula of B & You, slightly cheaper, at 23.99 euros per month.

Only here, despite its qualities and its attractiveness, this formula presented a small defect: Free did not reimburse the termination costs of another operator. Orange, Bouygues or SFR customers interested in the Freebox Pop S had to pay these costs to their former operator without hoping to be reimbursed by Free. An astonishing decision, insofar as the reimbursement of termination costs – up to 100 euros in general – is a common practice which precisely allows you to seduce new subscribers.

And you have to believe that this detail has not escaped potential customers because, in the face of criticism, Free has just backtake! As stipulated in the methods, which have been updated, the operator takes care of these famous termination costs – up to 100 euros, as usual – for new subscribers.

It is therefore excellent news for new customers, and especially those who hesitated to take the plunge. We can just be surprised that Free did not perceive earlier the problem posed by this detail which could slow down subscribers, especially since reimbursement is the rule in this very competitive sector. It only remains to hope that Free also reviews its migration policy towards the Freebox Pop S for its current subscribers, which are much less advantaged than new customers (see our article). Who knows, the operator may also make rear machine on this point if the criticisms fuse by harming his reputation …
