Meta has just announced the arrival of a newsfeed in which you can consult the publications of your friends, groups and pages followed in chronological order.
Meta has just announced the arrival of one of the most requested features by users: the ability to view their news feed chronologically. And it is Mark Zuckerberg in person, the boss of Facebook, who has just revealed it in a publication posted on the platform.
One of the most requested features for Facebook is to make sure people don’t miss friends’ posts. So today we’re launching a Feeds tab where you can see posts from your friends, groups, Pages and more separately in chronological order. The app will still open to a personalized feed on the Home tab, where our discovery engine will recommend the content we think you’ll care most about. But the Feeds tab will give you a way to customize and control your experience further.

“One of the most requested features for Facebook is to make sure people don’t miss their friends’ posts. So today, we’re launching a Post Feed tab where you can see posts from your friends, groups, Pages, and more, separately in chronological order. The app will always open to a personalized feed on the Home tab, where our discovery engine will recommend the content we think will interest you the most. But the Publication Feed tab will allow you to personalize and control your experience more,” said the Facebook boss.
Because, to satisfy users without abandoning its business, Meta has indeed decided to integrate the best of both worlds into its application: the traditional home page, and the new chronological publication thread. Concretely, the application will always open by default on the personalized home page in which are displayed publications suggested by the Facebook algorithm. But a new tab, Thread of publications, appears in the application and allows you to display, in chronological order, all the publications of your friends, the groups to which you are subscribed and the pages you follow.
You can also browse the publications of each of these categories separately. These two new tabs will be rolled out to all users by next week on iOS and Android mobile apps. They will take their place in the main navigation bar, which will not, however, be frozen. The display order of these tabs may a priori change according to those that the user consults most often. However, Facebook has provided an option to pin them to keep them at your fingertips.
A homecoming far from trivial
The chronological display of publications in Facebook is not new since it was, in the first years of existence of the platform, the model that was preferred. The social network had however abandoned this display a few years later in favor of a personalized system, powered by artificial intelligence, and which was supposed to display publications related to the centers of interest of users.
Meta, and more particularly Facebook, has recently been singled out for the excessive opacity of its algorithm governing the news feed, which has been accused of favoring content considered problematic. By resurrecting the timeline display in Facebook, Meta is taking a step forward to give its users back some control over the content posted on their account. A step forward that looks like a step back…
