Facebook is rolling out a new function called Link History

Facebook is rolling out a new function called Link History on Facebook within its mobile applications. A way to track you more during your browsing and offer you more targeted advertising.

While Facebook is closely monitored by the European Union, determined to protect the privacy and confidentiality of users on the Old Continent, Meta is introducing a new function on the Android and iOS applications of its social network: a browsing history. Called “Facebook Link History,” it’s currently being rolled out – so you may need to be a little patient before you can take advantage of it. Its operation is simple: all the links you click on from the application are automatically stored in memory for a period of 30 days so that you can find the sites consulted easily.

On paper, this service aims to “improve” your life, allowing you to “Never” lose the links you clicked on, to use the company’s words. But above all, it is a disguised way of obtaining your authorization to track you further, and therefore to offer you even more targeted advertising. Also, keep in mind that, when you click on a link from the Facebook application with this function activated, Meta knows exactly where you went, and can then track you throughout your navigation, while maintaining a history of your online habits and preferences.

Link history on Facebook: how to deactivate the function?

The new feature is enabled by default – normally the app sends you a notification to let you know when it’s enabled. However, you can deactivate it by going to the application settings, which allows you to protect your personal data and your privacy. Here are the steps to follow :

► Launch the Facebook application on your smartphone.

Press on a link in the Facebook app to open the Facebook mobile browser.

► A page is displayed. Press the three little dots at the top right of the screen.

► A menu appears. Press on Browser settings.

► Uncheck Allow link history.

► A pop-up window appears. Select Not to allow and confirm your choice.

Note that Meta allows a delay of 90 days (three months) before the request to delete the link history is taken into account.
