Invited to Europe 1 this Tuesday, January 23, the general secretary of the Communist Party denounced the government’s “racketeering” against the French.
After the announcement of the increase in electricity prices this Monday, January 22 by the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire and the increase in medical deductibles planned for “the end of March” according to the government, and while demonstrations scale of farmers continue to block several highways, Fabien Roussel became noticeably annoyed, speaking to Europe 1 this Tuesday morning. The general secretary of the Communist Party called for “bringing down the government” through a motion of censure in the National Assembly.
Fabien Roussel declared: “If we are against the increase in electricity bills, medical deductibles and the return of the tax on GNR (non-road diesel), I call on all deputies to vote for the motion censorship”. He also criticized Prime Minister Gabriel Attal: “He has just been appointed. He has not made his general policy speech and what he is telling us is racketeering (…) it is still hitting the wallets of the French”. Fabien Roussel also called for a “form of convergence of our anger to put pressure on the government”.
The Communist Party is not the only opposition party to react to these latest announcements. The deputy of the La France Insoumise party, Manuel Bompard, denounced “a program of general suffering” which according to him is being deployed by Gabriel Attal. According to him, Gabriel Attal “claimed to receive [les chefs de partis] to prepare a general policy speech. We rather had the feeling that we were preparing for a program of general suffering.” To which the deputy added: “What is on the agenda on February 1 of this year is an immense explosion of the cost of living.
