F1 champion Verstappen was not allowed to rent a sports car – is too young

F1 champion Verstappen was not allowed to rent a sports

If you have managed to clinch the championship title in the world’s premier racing series no less than three times, you probably know a thing or two about handling fast cars.

However, the car rental company Sixt does not seem to think so. According to The Sun they apparently recently denied the F1 driver from renting one of their faster rental cars.

Nice start to the holiday

Max Verstappen was recently on holiday in Portugal with friends and family, and had booked a number of cars from the car rental company Sixt.

He himself had chosen a Mercedes-AMG GT, but when he came to pick up the sports car, he ran into a patrol.

Sixt’s insurance requires you to be at least 30 years old to rent their finer sports cars, and the 26-year-old Verstappen was thus not allowed to collect the car.

The three-time world champion accepted the rules and instead rented a more everyday BMW 5 Series.

“Just followed the rules”

– The employees of our franchise partner in Portugal have only followed the rules based on the insurance requirements, a spokesperson from Sixt tells The Sun.

– In order to find a customer-friendly solution on the spot, Mr. Verstappen was provided with another premium car, the spokesperson continues.

Since this incident, Sixt has given Max Verstappen an exemption which means he can rent a Mercedes-AMG GT even though he is under 30 years old.
