Extremely tough superhero franchise Kick Ass is actually getting a new

With the brutal superhero spectacle Kick-Ass in 2010, Matthew Vaughn practically provided the blueprint for later genre hits such as Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds or the Amazon series The Boys. The Mix of R-rated violence, crude sayings and meta-references became a hit and received a sequel in 2013.

At the end of 2021, Vaughn spoke for the first time about a planned Kick-Ass reboot, for which he wanted to look for a bold, new star. Now the director gave an update on the ongoing development.

New Kick-Ass Movie Won’t Bring Back Old Characters

Anyone who hoped that a reboot of the superhero series could have at least brief appearances by Dave Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) or Mindy Macready aka Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) was disappointed by the director. During an appearance at New York Comic Con, Vaughn said, according to Entertainment Weekly:

Kick-Ass changed people’s perception of what a superhero movie was. We’ll do it again. None of the other characters from the other Kick-Ass are in it, although we’d like to have them back after the reboot. I can’t really talk about it, but it’s fun!

With this, Vaughn at least vaguely holds out the prospect that the most popular original characters come back again in the future could. But the director’s first concern is to create an independent, fresh superhero variation.

When does the Kick-Ass reboot start in cinemas?

A start date for the superhero reboot has not yet been officially determined. If filming begins next year, the new Kick-Ass film should hit theaters in 2025.
